“GPT Evolution: CEO Confesses ‘Soft Spot’ for GPT-2! ChatGPT’s Story”

A Change of Heart: OpenAI's Sam Altman Shows Affection for GPT-2, Anticipates Launch of Improved GPT-5

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, once expressed views labelling GPT-2 as ‘very bad'. However, his recent admission of a newfound ‘soft spot' for this particular version showcases his change of thought. Altman's critical view extended to all models leading up to GPT-5, whose launch is eagerly awaited.

This revelation came through X, the platform that replaced Twitter, where Altman unveiled his fondness for GPT-2, signaling a shift in his previously skeptical stance. As reported by Forbes, OpenAI has been diligently refining its GPT models since their induction in 2018. The expectations around the upcoming GPT-5 stem from the considerable evolutionary leaps within each subsequent generation.

The journey began with GPT-1's inception in 2018, showcasing the context-predictive prowess with a foundation of 117 million parameters. GPT-2 arrived next in 2019 with a significant advancement of 1.5 billion parameters and impressively fluid text generation. GPT-3, released in 2020, further transformed text generation by adding 175 billion parameters and paved the way for a wide array of applications.

Currently, GPT-4, the latest version, is only available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. It features improved image-and-text understanding and a safer output. However, anticipation grows for GPT-5, expected to supplement these features while resolving performance issues experienced with its predecessor.
