The AI chatbot, aptly named Meta AI, enables the users to engage in conversations, ask questions and generate AI images, similar to other chatbot counterparts such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft's Co-Pilot, and Google's Gemini. This new feature appears as a conversational chat window integrated into the search and messaging features across Meta's suite of apps.
Even though this technology is nascent with debatable utility, the major tech players consider it the next big leap in the tech space. Competing against each other, these tech companies are rolling out their versions of AI capabilities in anticipation of their platform's aging user base. The introduction of chatbots is expected to provide an interactive interface to offset the diminishing human interactions on these platforms.
With its ubiquitous presence, the AI chatbot seems inescapable. However, WhatsApp users have a respite with an option to hide the new Meta AI button by heading to Settings → Chats → Show Meta AI Button. Despite this feature, the presence of AI persists in the search bar, thereby making it somewhat unavoidable.
