OpenAI, on its part, seeks to remould its human-like conversation AI models called LLMs into profitable products. As Altman, CEO of OpenAI, described, cost of training and running these AI models is a financial challenge.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT Enterprise in August 2023, to offer organizations a customizable chatbot with internal data. Moderna and OpenAI revealed their collaboration since early 2023 on April 24, with detailed information on how Moderna has been leveraging OpenAI's tech for various operations, enhancing their productivity.
According to Moderna's CEO Stéphane Bancel, the collaboration is proving immensely fruitful for the company. “If we had to do it the old biopharmaceutical ways, we might need a hundred thousand people today,” said Bancel. “We really believe we can maximize our impact on patients with a few thousand people, using technology and AI to scale the company.”
